Newton County Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Newton County is offering financial assistance to its residents through the American Rescue Plan Act. 

For those seeking emergency rental and mortgage relief, please apply at the following link: ERAP - Newton County (newtoncountygaerap.com). You must be a Newton County resident to apply.

Newton County individuals in the household who have qualified for unemployment benefits or has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or has experienced other financial hardship due directly or indirectly to the coronavirus outbreak; and Individuals in the household who can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by being past due on utilities, rent, or mortgage are eligible to apply.

Those who are not eligible are households that have incomes above 80 percent of the area's median income, households that cannot show a Covid-19 hardship or risk of homelessness or housing instability and renter or mortgage households that are not behind on either rent or utility bills. Also ineligible are households who have received assistance from the Georgia Rental Assistance Program (GRAP), Salvation Army Rental Assistance, or any other source within the past six (6) months. 

Applicants can receive a maximum of eight months rent, two of which can be for future rents and six for rent arrears or a maximum of three months arrears and one month future mortgage.
