About Us

The landfill is for the use of Newton County residents only. Residents must show valid ID, property tax bill, mortgage statement, or current utility bill showing their Newton County address. Commercial disposers are accepted with proper documentation showing the Origin of the Load. All loads must be covered until you are stopped at the dumping area. Littering is covered in the Solid Waste Ordinance link below.

We encourage Residents to Recycle using our Convenience Centers located throughout the County. More information about the Convenience Centers can be found using the link to the left. Recycling is voluntary but greatly reduces the amount of waste that enters the Landfill. 

Out of county waste is prohibited from disposal at the Newton County Landfill by county ordinance. It is unlawful to scavenge or remove any materials deposited at any Waste Collection/Disposal facility. You may review the Ordinance by following the link above.


Normal Operating Hours

The landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Last load is accepted at 4:25 PM. The Landfill is closed the same schedule as Newton County's published holidays, with the exception of Christmas and New Year's.

Fees

There is a $30 minimum charge per vehicle, per visit, which pays for up to 1,180 pounds. For loads more than 1,180 pounds, the tipping fee is $51 per ton. 

Accepted forms of payment: cash, debit/credit card or check. There is a 3.5% fee associated with debit/credit card use.

Acceptable Items

We accept normal household trash, furniture (including mattresses bedroom sets, tables, and couches), old appliances, cardboard, and metal. 

Yard trimmings, such as clippings, old mulch, old pine straw, and leaves are accepted. Trees and brush are accepted if cut into 6 foot or less lengths.

Construction and remodeling materials, such as lumber, shingles, carpet, commodes, bath tubs, sinks, drywall, old wood flooring and tile are accepted.

Tires are accepted from Newton County Residents only and are subject to charges based on size and whether the tire is on the rim.

Unacceptable Items

Used motor oil, used transmission fluid and spent engine cleaner are not accepted. These all may be recycled at your local auto parts store. 

Batteries are not accepted. They also may be taken to the Parts stores or to some of the Recyclers in the area.

Hazardous Chemicals such as corrosives, flammable materials, explosive materials, are not accepted.

Boats and Ski Jets are not accepted.

Propane and Helium Tanks are not accepted.

Special Days for Household Electronics and Paint

Recycle household electronics and dispose of unwanted paint (residential only, no commercial) on the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at the Newton County Landfill.  There is a limit of 10 gallons of paint per household per month.

  • CD-ROM and Floppy Drives
  • Computer Fans
  • Hard Drives-Shredded and Whole
  • Heat Sink
  • Hubs and Routers
  • Laptops-Complete and Incomplete
  • LCD Monitors with no blemishes
  • Memory-Gold and Silver
  • Modems
  • PCs - Complete and Incomplete
  • Power Supply with wire
  • Processors
  • UPS
